Isabella: The lowdown
How has social media affected your idea of beauty?
Social media has had a major impact on my idea of beauty, not only is it a pretence of everyone is living this most amazing life but even silly things. I have really visible pores, but I didn’t realise that was normal because everyone I saw online had filters on. This idea of constantly comparing yourself to everyone and thinking, “oh their hair looks like this, their skin looks like this, they’ve got no acne”. There I was covered in cystic acne and not seeing anyone look like me for so long, until I found the skin positivity movement on Instagram. Now social media has really positively affected my idea of beauty because I see it as whatever’s inside us!
What do you love most about being a creator? What's the hardest part?
My favorite thing about being a creator is connecting with people, that’s why I started up my Instagram! Just to find people who, like me, were going through something with their skin and not feeling great about their bodies. I just absolutely love that every day I get to connect with amazing, kind, people out there and hopefully get them feeling good about themselves. The thing I like the least…probably the trolls! Luckily enough there are few and far between and the positives massively outweigh the negatives.
Best way to relax?
The way I find best to relax is very basic, but I find a bath, face mask, Netflix, probably a nice glass of gin, and just switching off! And maybe a bit of journaling too.
What is your favorite thing about yourself?
I find this a really hard question to answer but, I think it is my resilience because when stuff gets tough, I will always keep going.
Who should everyone be following on Instagram?
A page everyone should be following on Instagram is @nonairbrushedme, I absolutely LOVE their posts. It’s a real positive space on Instagram! One day you might get a social media vs reality post, then a body image post, an acne positivity post – it’s just all these beautiful creators that you get to find through them as well.
My proudest moment is my first ever post on Instagram, because I had no idea how much it would change my life for the better. All I knew is that I was sick and tired of hiding my skin. From the age of 9 – 21, only 9 people had seen me without makeup on and I was still so afraid and dealing with so much insecurity around it. I had no idea that now I would be so happy without wearing makeup! So, looking back I think that’s my proudest moment.
What is your all-time favorite food?
I am a massive foodie so honestly; any food is my all-time favorite food! But, I’m going to say pasta and sushi.
Last show you’ve binge watched?
It was actually Below Deck, I’m hoping another series is going to come out on Netflix. It’s all about the lives of people on yachts; the guests, the cabins, all the crew, it’s just so much fun!
What’s a trend you would like to see disappear forever?
There are two trends that I’d like to disappear forever. The first one is filters and all these modified faces, and the second one is low rise jeans!
